Question of the Day: Concrete in Cold Weather

Q: How does Super-Krete hold up in cold weather? I need to do a pool deck coating on older concrete, and I am willing to remove old material if I need to for a proper bond. Which of your products do you recommend?

A: Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, our systems, unlike most, are proven to work in extreme temperature conditions with great success – largely in part to our product, Pene-Krete. Pene-Krete stops freeze/thaw damage from occurring. Click here to read more about Pene-Krete and how it works.
Our coating systems are not subject to cold weather deterioration. Once the concrete substrate is treated with Pene-Krete and our systems are applied and the final sealer coats applied, it’s really a matter of regular maintenance (ensuring the surface remains sealed over time) to keep it long lasting for you.

Definitely review our S-1 Surface Preparation spec for the required steps to remove the existing coating, where it is fully outlined.

Question of the Day: Top Sealer vs. Pene-Krete

Q: Hello, I’m wondering if you could counsel me as to the best product for my application. I am building a underground grotto and hot pool complex (stalactites hanging from the ceiling, sort of cavelike with the hot pool central), and I need to seal all the cement and without having a shiny, artificial appearance. It was recommended that I use Top Sealer S-8200 for my application, however I see on the website that is recommended only in a vertical application. Will this product be acceptable under water? Or would I be better with another one of your products, such as Pene-Krete S-1300?

A: Thank you for addressing the information on our website. Top Sealer is in fact the most popular sealer for rockscape, water fountains, etc. as it gives  a natural (invisible) appearance while providing the water protection. That is why it is mentioned as a vertical surface sealer – but the surfaces don’t necessarily need to be vertical. Pene-Krete is a different type of sealer but it is always recommended that all cementitious surfaces that are going to be coated or sealed should be used as an integral sealer to seal the pores within the concrete structures. In other words, perform the Pene-Krete spray application according to instructions first. After 24 hours apply the Top Sealer per instruction.

I hope this helps – thanks for asking all the right questions and feel free to call our tech department if you have further questions or need further assistance. 800-995-1716
